Need textures?We had a feature of drawing references yesterday, so let's take a look at textures now. I must admit that I'm a total freak when it comes to this topic. I love textures, I love making them and I love seeing them everywhere. In this feature I'll also include some tutorials, traditional and digital, so you could learn how to make some on your own.

Need faces?We've already had "Need references?" and "Need textures?", time for something else. This actually is about references again, but about these more specified ones. Emotions. How many times have you wondered why is that the faces you draw look as empty as dead? Depicting moods can be a very hard task. Try sketching yourself (yes, a mirror would be a nice thing to have in this case), pull faces at diffrent angles, change light. And take a look at these below. Compare.

About socks. And to be more precise -- about one really old technique of making them, older than crocheting and much older than knitting. PE: Daily Deviations - The Myth and the LegendDaily Deviations, or DDs . . . for some deviants, receiving one is the epitome of awesomesauce in the deviantART world. For others, they are a nice way to show off the work of lesser-known artists. Still others treat them as a special way to bring attention to great art that exemplifies works being done by a particular gallery or community.
Perhaps because there are so many different ways of conceptualizing DDs, there are also many myths and misconceptions. I would like to address some of those myths by responding to the ones most frequently heard. Please note that these opinions are mine and reflect my experiences with the photomanipulation community, but perhaps they will be informative nevertheless.
Myth 1: DDs should always be perfect.
To many of us, the ideal Daily Deviation goes to an artist with amazing talent whose work draws you in and makes you think, "Wow, everyone needs to see this!" A DD should move you, inspire you, and provoke you to think, b

I recently read an article on Reddit that explored the best way to photography Christmas lights and it raised some interesting points. Although drawing and painting "from life" is way much more effective and efficient than drawing from photos (I'll be writting a separate journal about this soon, no worries), you simply can't have a person to model for you every time you want to create something. And there are situations when you don't exactly know how to place that bloody hand or if the foot is drawn correctly. Similiar issues can happen with architecture, perspective... with everything you draw. Then, when you look for help, you may stumble upon Stock gallery and you find awesome things. Remember about crediting the used stock directly!

Have you ever held your hands still for several hours? Or been able to get the exact same post? Or drawing it from the front? There are a lot of poses I've drawn that putting my own hand in that position at the perspective I wanted to see it from would have been painfull to say the very least. And certainly not a position I could hold long term.

ok than study it, see the light on it, feel the light on it and take a picture in the pose. And I think the picture would be more real if it would be from a life that is slighlty adjusted several times than copied from a flat photo. Look I dont feel a need to argue, I just feel that we are depending too much on photos and its distorting our perception because we are loosing the grip of the real world and we are too lazy to think about it

Not quite. Male and female hands differ a lot - try drawing female hands on male character, it'll look ridiculous.

all hands are different not just male and female...I think theres much bigger difference in thin and fat...what I was trying to say that stock should be used limitadely just to understand the position of objects and the light...in type of hands it should be able to be adjusted

How about drawing two left hands holding each other? Do you have two left hands? Also, you can't view your hand in all positions from every point of view you'd need for a drawing. (: I spent my time on this feature and I made sure to put useful things in it, thanks for appreciation.
